[GUIDE] Driving with PS4 controller

Post by nova » Tue May 14, 2019 5:44 pm

Hello,

In this guide I will explain how you can use your PS4 controller to drive in SA-MP. This means that you can drive more realistically and can accelerate slower and drive slower without having to release your trigger. (it goes gradually faster).

The things you need for this to work: Once you have downloaded DS4Windows installed, make sure that you allow it to install the driver. Also, shut down Steam as it interferes with DS4Windows. (GTA_SA Steam users, I personally don't know how this would work for you)

Once you've set up DS4Windows and your controller now (you can try by using your touchpad it should move your mouse around) install the GinputSA.asi file into your gta_sa main directory.

At last you need to edit the config file for it to work properly in-game. I will list below the changes you have to make:

Code: Select all

; This option will replace XBOX pad buttons with PlayStation pad buttons
PlayStationButtons=1

Code: Select all

; Disables a lock-on aim when using a pad
FreeAim=1

Code: Select all

; Global Sixaxis hack toggle - must be enabled for any Sixaxis features to work
; Might cause crashes if used xinput1_3.dll doesn't match the one hacks were prepared for
EnableSixaxisHack=1

Code: Select all

[Pad1]
; This option will determine what controls set to use
; See docs/GAME CONTROLS FULL LIST.txt for available modes and their setups
ControlsSet=2
This should be all that is required to be put on these settings, you could alter more settings if you personally like that, e.a sensitivity. Make sure you have free aim enabled so that you won't have a lock-on aim. (You will get banned if you use lock-on aim).

After you've saved the settings in GinputSA.ini you can run SA-MP like you normally do and it should work right off the bat. You can half-jog and steer more precisely with your analog stick, the triggers can be used to drive slowly, accelerate slowly, brake slowly, reverse slowly.

You can use this in combination with keyboard and mouse, you do not need to change settings as both are usable at the same time. You could even type and drive if you had four hands IRL.

For the record: This does not give an unfair advantage over other players, the only thing you can really do with this is drive more realistically and less like a jackass.

Awesome! Thank you for this! Haven't got a Ps4 controller but I'm fairly sure lots of the stuff used in this could be used to jig up a different controller.
