The INSANE SPANISH COBRAS (ISC) also known as the abberviations SC, KC, WC, VC, INSANE CULEBRAS and IF or 415 in Los Santos , is a multi-ethnic street gang that first started in the streets of Southside Chicago. The North American gang founding dates back to 1973 when it was ran by the notorious gang leader by the name of Richard Medina a/k/aKing Cobra” at the age of fourteen. In the beginning, Medina recruited young Puerto-Rican individuals in order to defend their neighborhood streets.

The Spanish Cobras and others such as the Almighty Latin Kings we're one of the first Puerto-Rican dominant gangs to take birth in the north side of Chicago. The function took it's biggest leap into a more organized group in 1978 when Larry Hoover, the leader of the Black Gangster Disciple Nation created the Folk Nation alliance behind prison walls. King Hoover's goal was to immediately unite the BGDs and Black Disciples and to also unite with Latino and white gangs.

The Spanish Cobras were one of the first Latino gangs that were asked to join the Folk Nation along with some other allies like the Imperial Gangsters, Latin eagles, Orquestra Albany and the Latin Disciples. The Spanish Cobras were also allied with the Simon City Royals and the Almighty Insane Popes. The Spanish Cobras had become highly organized at this point in time which is known as the “Capone era” and a lot of that was credited to King Cobra and maybe that is why his praises went so far that he was accredited as the founder of the Spanish Cobras.

Tragedy struck on April 12, 1979, when Richard Medina was gunned down with several bullets while unloading his baby into his house. The Insane Unknowns were to blame for the murder in retaliation for the killing of Ruben Perez an original Insane Unknown. Rumors also are said that the Latin Kings also ordered the IU's to kill Richard Medina, so they killed him in 1979. The Cobras were now full of hate and ready to kill. This went down the same day that King Cobra was killed. The intense war with the IU's did not fizzle out a little until 1981, regardless, the Cobras made it a point to kill at least one rival every anniversary day since King Cobra’s death in 1980, 1981 and 1982 .This alone made them responsible for the near extermination of the Insane Unknowns, as well as the Spanish Lords.

TheInsane Culebras are known for their distribution of narcotics, violence, self-identifying, and advertisement of their gang. The violate gang have wreaked havoc on cities for their robberies, murders, extortion, sexual assaults, & kidnappings. The gang are connected to mid-level and retail level distribution of methamphetamine, marijuana, cocaine, and heroin .

The gang is known to be very violent and can be noticed from their green and black colors, tattoos or greenbay packers attire. The gang also expresses gang culture by using the Cobra snake, a Diamond, Staff, Six Pointed Star and 3 Dots in most of their gang graffiti. The gang was dominantly Latino (puerto-rican) and this was majorly because of the Puerto-Rican immigration that took place back in 1953 on the north side of Chicago. In more modern times, the gang has been seen to recruit out of their own race such as Caucasians, and African-Americans.

The notorious gang branched out to the states of Wisconsin, Chicago, and Milwaukee before expanding into others huge states such as Michigan, and Detroit. After the death of " King Cobra" a new leader rose up to power by the name of; Anibal “Tuffy C” Santiago. The new gang leader took it upon himself to expand the gang's power into different states of America and even the country of Puerto Rico. The gang is considered to represent within the Folk Alliance in most states however, peace is no longer guaranteed from the alliances in the street organizations (gangs).

LOS SANTOS, SAN ANDREAS

The history of the Insane Spanish Cobras in Los Santos began around the early 2000s. A high-ranking member by the name of Eugene “MOUSEY” Rodriguez, who was an Original Cobra Gangster at the time, was given orders by Tuffy C to start a Cobra function in Los Santos, San Andreas. The Insane Spanish Cobras in Los Santos operate underneath two cliques: the Insane Winona Cobras (I.W.C.) and the Insane Village Cobras (I.V.C.). Both functions are believed to be led by Mousey who is currently serving a life sentence behind bars in a San Andreas Federal Maximum Security prison.
Image
They are considered to be one of the largest hispanic gangs in Chicago, Illinois and Michigan along with having a few branch off cliques in Los Santos County alone. The street gang ranges in a wide variety of gang activities which has been brought to the attention of law officials. The Los Santos County gang is more commonly known for their active acts of actions in the distributing of narcotics, drive-by shootings, home evasions, extortion's, sexual assaults, weapon trafficking, carjacking’s, murder, and other criminal activities.

Eugene "MOUSEY" Rodriguez was incarcerated on two counts of first degree murder for the slaying of two gang members claiming to be high ranking Latin King individuals. Rodriguez was sentenced to life back in 2009 and is still pulling strings behind San Anne Correctional Facilities even while undergoing Maximum Security. The gang starts recruitment young from middle school to high school by peer pressuring the neighborhood kids & teens or classmates to join the local function for notoriety amongst their elder peers. Furthermore, with MOUSEY serving a life sentence, younger fledged members have rose to power seeking gang notoriety in their neighborhood streets looking to overpower MOUSEY's street credentials.

WEST GROVE & WINONA AVE

The neighborhood gang out of Idlewood is considered to be the Spanish Cobras. They have dominantly made a name for themselves in the streets of Palmwood Avenue, Winona Avenue, 106th street, West Grove street, and Estrada Courts & West Grove village. The gang wreaks havoc on all local neighborhood gangs in it's vicinity having current and past rivals such as; Southbridge Slimes, Jungle Stone Blood Gang(BPS), Rollin 60's Neighborhood crips, Maniac Swans, Tiny Winos(18st), 99Mafia Crips, Ganton Boulevard Families, Florencia 13, Arias Park Crips, all people nation gangs, and more.

Estrada Courts Housing Projects located on Winona Avenue has fallen victim to rapid increases in drug-related crime in the past two decades, with a significant amount gang violence on a steady increase since the mid 2000's. The prime location and constant traffic flow renders a hot-spot for the relentless drug trade and has also bred products for "Herion" and "Meth". This is a major reason why the gang is considered to be high in the drug distribution gang due to their area of activity. Main traffic routes leading to Estrada Courts are Palmwood Avenue, West Grove St. and Winona Avenue which spans all the way out to West Idlewood. Bordering districts for the neighborhood are: Ganton to the east, also being referred to as South Central, Jefferson situated to the north and Willowfield to the south. The " Culebras " are heavily involved in multiple acts of murder which has brought lots of attention to government officials. The Los Santos Sheriff's Department have been working on cases throughout the months in hope to find the main source of the local gang's resources and/or find out who is pulling the strings on the outside since MOUSEY is still incarcerated.

The Los Santos County gang still operates under the FOLK ALLIANCE which makes it difficult to understand their culture from other Hispanic gangs. They are responsible for more the half of the murder counts that have risen in the last decade in Idlewood. The reasons for these increases in crime were mostly because distribution for the drug to the end-user occurred mainly in low-income inner city neighborhoods. This gave many inner-city residents the opportunity to move up the "economic ladder" in a drug market that allowed dealers to charge a low minimum price. During this time frame, the Spanish Cobras, became one of the largest distributors of herion and meth in these low-income inner city neighborhoods.

In the year 1978, a new alliance with the Imperial Gangsters and Latin Eagles now developed called “United Latino Organization” or “ULO” and the “ YLO ” term was then used for the young members or “futures” that wanted to join the Cobras and Disciples. These kids were in grammar school and junior highschool. Being " YLO " would give these young kids an opportunity to prove themselves before being taken into " ULO " and being a Spanish Cobra or Latin Disciple.

The YLOs began to prove themselves worthy of becoming a part of ULO and being Cobras and Disciples as they gang banged heavily on enemies and protected their turf ferociously. The YLO Cobras took over their first City Park and new piece of territory on their own at Shubert and Avers, Kosciusko Park in Logan Square, known as Koz Park in 1978. This boosted their reputation heavily. The " YLOSCs " (Young Latin Organization Spanish Cobras) battled Latin Kings, Vice Lords and the Ghetto Brothers Organization ferociously.

By 1979, the Cobras and Disciples were so impressed with the young YLOs that they wanted them to take the full membership right away, but were surprised when the young YLOs told them they were no longer interested and wanted their own nation that they wanted to call “Young Latino Organization Cobra Disciples.” These kids developed a nifty handshake that consisted of throwing up the Cobra and the pitchfork.

The Spanish Cobras and Latin Disciples sometimes acted like the YLOs were still low ranking Cobras and Disciples in an attempt to get them to flip by saying things like “Y be LO when you can be a D (or C)?” Even though Cobras and Disciples had some jealousy, they remained allies and watched their backs. Now just for understanding: the YLOCD was an agreement between YLO Cobras and YLO Disciples. YLOCD applied to both groups, who were two separate gangs but also like one larger entity at the same time; mainly when they got together, but when they were posted on their own turf they used their own names.

In the year 1980, the YLOCD became even more independent as they felt they did not need each other anymore. Some of these kids wanted to follow Spanish Cobra concepts more closely while others wanted to follow Latin Disciple concepts. This disagreement led to the gang being split in half. The kids that wanted to follow Disciple concepts became known as the “Young Latino Organization Disciples” or “YLOD” and were led by “Chicky D,” “Kiki D,” and “Karate Freak.” The Spanish Cobra supporters became known as the “Young Latino Organization Cobras” or “YLOC” and were led by Flaco C, Negro C, Javier C and Papo C, with Flaco C being the head of the Nation all throughout the 1980s. By default, YLO Cobras were taken into the Folk Nation alliance as soon as they gained independence since they were born out of the Spanish Cobras. In more modern times the Y L O's are now governed in and out of prison by high ranking fledged Spanish Cobra members however on the streets have a loose ranked hierarchy.

Estrada Courts Housing Projects & West Grove Village
Image

The West Grove Village Housing Projects is a 1000-unit public housing apartment complex North of Ganton and West of Idlewood, Los Santos which consists of two sections of the housing projects as a whole: Estrada Courts and the Village although both complexes are perceived as their own individual complexes with each housing well over 1,000 impoverished residents of the West Idlewood community. The complex is owned and managed by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) and, much like many other housing projects in Los Santos, was built in the early 1980s during the earliest parts of the crack-cocaine epidemic.

The area of West Idlewood isn't necessarily the safest place to inhabit; being voted number 3 on the most 10 dangerous places to live in Los Santos right after East Los Santos (number 2) and Central Idlewood (number 1). Since the early 2000's, the area of West Grove Village has been known as a Drug Trafficking hot spot for illicit factions of all kinds from street gangs such as the Brown Pride Locos 216 and No Love 14.

Estrada Courts Housing Projects has fallen victim to rapid increases in drug-related crime in the past two decades, with a significant amount gang violence on a steady increase since the mid 2000's. The prime location and constant traffic flow renders a hot-spot for the relentless drug trade and has also bred products for "Herion" and "Meth".

Main traffic routes leading to Crystal Gardens are Palmwood Avenue, West Grove St. and Winona which spans all the way out to West Idlewood. Bordering districts for the neighborhood are: Ganton to the east, also being referred to as South Central, Jefferson situated to the north and Willowfield to the south.

Once a pre-dominantly African-American area has now been split with an influx of Hispanic American immigrants from various background ethnicities.

"This area is a central hot-spot for gang activity. It's [been] like that here. And I don't think it will slow down, I think when one gang is pushed out, another one will rise and take over," says Mayor Frank Vaughn.

Parker being the leading Detective in the case that took down the infamous Brown Pride Locos 216 a casefile that extended two years from late January 2013 to early September 2015, has seen it all in regards to street gangs.

"I have NO doubt that another [Hispanic] street gang will pop up soon," says Vaughn.

The area of West Grove Village seems rid of the African-American illicit community but now seems to be plagued by a new type of criminal aspect coming from the new Hispanic residents.
Drug Raid secures four Arrest

A three month long investigation into an alleged drug distribution web at a local housing complex lead to the arrest of one man, and the seizure of a large stock of drugs and cash, authorities said on Monday. Los Santos County Detective Raymond Rivas said authorities executed a search warrant at a unit in Estrada Courts Housing Projects, located on North Palmwood Avenue, on June August 13th.

The search was a result of an extensive narcotics investigation into Daniel ''SHYSTY'' Aponte, 19 and Devatae ''DICE'' Aponte, 17, blood-brothers whom were residing in apartment C-4 along with their little brother and Daniel's girlfriend, authorities said. Whether or not Mr. Aponte's younger sibling and girlfriend were involved with this scheme is unknown and it is yet to be determined as detectives dig further into their investigation.

''These two have been the subject(s) of an investigation of Drug Enforcement Administration investigation for quite a while now'', says detective Rivas.

The investigation managed went further on that night when detectives aggressively forced a search warrant to Daniel's Aponte's house after his arrest. The drug raid resulted in two dead gang members dead and two arrest. The convictions of Diego "HONCHO" Reyes, 18, and Hector "SLIME" Quinonez, 21. Quinonez had an infamous bench warrant for failed appearance to court on a car theft charge, and Mr. Reyes was a suspect on the drug ring organization that the Aponte Brothers operated both now face court dates

Three other defendants are still scheduled for trial on November 27, 2017. Of the 14 defendants who were indicted along with the brothers, 10 have pleaded guilty.
