Have you just recently downloaded an awesome mod for your handy Desert Eagle, and upon installing it in-game, you realised that the icon that comes with it is absolute garbage? Maybe you've found a cool icon pack, and you want all of your guns to have the same icon? Well lucky for you, there is a method that you can use to change the icon of any weapon.
1) DOWNLOAD TXD WORKSHOP
The first thing that you want to do is download TXDWorkshop. You can do so by clicking here
. Upon downloading, you will be given a zip file that you just extract to any given location on your computer. Note that it does not have to be in your GTA installation directory. Once extracted to your chosen location, it should look something like this:
What you want to do, is run txdworkshop.exe
. Upon running it, you will be greeted with the TXDWorkshop window.
2) OPEN THE TXD
Now that you have the software downloaded and on your computer, you are ready to open the TXD file of the desired weapon. Say for example you download one of Marksman's guns
and decided that you don't like the icons that the gun comes with, and would like a different one. In this example, we'll use a Desert Eagle.
The weapon should be represented by desert_eagle.dff
. On the TXDWorkshop window, you want to press the button on the middle column that says 'Open TXD', as highlighted below in yellow.
After doing so, you need to select the desert_eagle.txd
file. Once you have imported the file into the TXDWorkshop window, you will be given a display like this:
3) IMPORT THE ICON
As you can see in the image above, the second option down (the one below the blue highlighted one in the centre column) is a picture of the weapon icon. Upon selecting that entry (thus making it highlighted blue) you should click 'Import' at the top of the program.
After doing so, a window will pop up, for you to select the image you wish to replace it with. The supported file types are .bmp, .tga, and .png
. Once you have selected the image you want for the weapon, click 'Open' and it will replace the image in the workshop.
4) MAKE SURE THE PROPERTIES ARE CORRECT
After you have imported the image, the properties may not be correct, if it is an image you made yourself for example, or if it is not named correctly. If this is the case, you must ensure that they are right. Firstly, whilst the icon is highlighted in TXD Workshop, click 'properties' along the top row.
After this, a window pops up entitled 'Image properties'. In the example where we used a Desert Eagle, the name
must be desert_eagleicon
. Generally, you should just ensure that the name and alpha are the exact same as they were before
you replaced the image, so take a note of it beforehand. Here is a correct
5) PRESS SAVE!
Once you've completed the above steps, you're finished! Just press 'Save TXD' at the top of the window, and you have done. It will save over the TXD file that you imported, so you are ready to drag and drop it into modloader, or import it into the correct area using an IMG editor.
I hope you found this tutorial useful. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, feel free to post them down below and I will be sure to get back to them as soon as possible.
