[Guide] Dub$ack's screenshot guide

Post by Dub$ack » Tue Aug 02, 2016 10:02 pm

Photoshop screenshot guide

This guide is to display how to create a screenshot using a text-free background, with the ability to add text that is only relevant to the situation. This will help user's get their point across faster, with less clutter on the screen.

My game's current settings:
  • Resolution: 1366 x 768 x 32
  • Anti-aliasing: 3
  • /fontsize -1
  • /pagesize 15

End result to this guide:
Image

Step one:

Find a good angle during the scene you're in, and take a screenshot without text. This will provide you with your backdrop for your end result. (To take a text-free screenshot, all you have to do is hold F10 to eliminate all text and then press F8 when you find a suiting angle.)

It should look like this,
Image

Step two:

Once you have found a good angle, you want to take a screenshot of nothing but your text. How you ask? It's easier then you think, all you have to do is use the /blindfold command. What does this do? It turns your whole screen black, everything but the text that it.

It should look like this,
Image

Take note, you can take as many text screenshots as needed. It is easy to seamlessly add in text to make it look like it's the actual game. In this specific screenshot, I had two text based screenshots.

Step three:

My settings for the magic wand tool,
Image

Now that we have our base image and our text image, we want to be able to combine the two. It's actually a lot easier then most think. All you have to do is use the magic wand tool and click anywhere in the black area on the text screenshot.

It should look like this,
Image

From here, all you need to do is Edit > Cut to remove all that yucky black in the background.

It should look like this,
Image

Step four:

Now you have to select all the text from the previous step, I usually use the Rectangular Marquee Tool and select it all in one big box.

My Rectangular Marquee Tool settings,
Image

Step five:

Once you've selected all your text, simply Edit > Copy and go back to your text-free background image. Once there you want to Edit > Paste the cut text image over the text-free background image. Make sure it's in a whole new layer then the background image!

It should look like this,
Image

From here, you wanted to use the Rectangular Marquee Tool again to select certain lines of text that you don't want included in your screenshot.

It should look like this,
Image

Once the text is selected simply Edit > Cut it out, completely removing the unwanted text from your background image.

Step six:

Now that you have removed all your unwanted text you want to use your Rectangular Marquee Tool and Move Tool to move the text where you would like it on the screen. I prefer to keep the game looking as normal as possible, so I keep it towards the top left of the screenshot.

It should look like this,
Image

Still doesn't look right? It's OK, we're on the final step!

Step seven:

After you get the text where you would like it, we want to add a black outline just like in the SA-MP gameplay.

All you have to do is double-click your text layer to open up your layer style options. One here, click the empty box next to the stroke option (this will turn on a black layer around anything you have).

Here are the settings I use for my stroke options,
Image

It should look like this after you click OK,

Step eight:

MAKE IT YOUR OWN, BE CREATIVE. The best thing about screenshots is the ability to be creative, as you can see at the beginning of this guide I added the picture of the knife I received from Deangelo_Moulton. Don't be afraid to make it your own.

Thanks for taking the time to read the guide. This is my first guide ever, so I hope it's understandable. Feel free to leave me feedback.

When I click with my magic wand, background doesn't turn transparent, it turns white instead. What should I do? :D
NVM, fixed that.
But text looks really small now, how to fix that?

/fontsize (number here). Use any number until you find what you prefer.
