[Guide] Basic Hispanic Slang

Post by CAZEY » Tue Nov 19, 2013 9:47 am

Often I get newer players wondering what half the things the group of people they're role-playing with are saying in a Sureno' or Norteno' Gang environment, as African-American and Hispanic slang can differ. so I'd thought I'd list some basic Hispanic slang so people can get on-top of it.

This quick guide is to fill you in on some of the basics...

Baro - Money.
Bronca - Conflict with someone else.
Cantón - Home; House; Apartment
Carnal - Brother, close friend, homeboy.
Carrucha/Carro - Car/Your ride.
Carrujo - A joint.
Chale' - An expression of disagreement. Very much like saying "Hell no!"
Chavala - Little girl. Used as an insult to men who lack courage.
Chavalo - Young boy.
Chela - Beer.
Chido - An expression of like, as if to say something is 'cool', 'rad' or 'awesome'.
Chorra - Dick/Penis
Cuete - Gun.
Ene - Short for Norteño, often Norteño's refer to eachother by saying ene. Example: "Fuck yeah! Let's go get that fine ass ride 'ene!"
Ena - Short for Norteña. Example: "Fuck yeah! Let's go get that fine ass ride 'ena!"
Esa - Short for Sureña. Example: "Fuck yeah! Let's go get that fine ass ride 'esa!"
Ese - Short for Sureño. Example: "Fuck yeah! Let's go get that fine ass ride 'ese!"
Feria - Money.
Filero - Knife.
Fusca - Also 'Gun', just as 'Cuete'.
Gabacho/a - Insulting term for a white person.
Gringo - Insulting term for a white person
Grifa/Mota - Marijuana.
Grifo - Marijuana addict. If an experienced player says "Grifo" he may be referring to an older player in the old-school Los Locotes gang who was a famous rapper IC.
Homes - The same as saying "Homeboy".
Hyna - A girl or a girlfriend.
Jefa/Jefita - Mother.
Jefito - Father.
Jefe' - Boss.
Jura - Police.
Leva - Coward.
Mayate/Mayata' - Insult for dark skinned people.
Nel - No.
No Manches - Don't mess around!
Órale - Right on! Alright! Hell yeah! Example: Let's go fuck up those norte's ese! ORALE!
Ojete - Asshole.
Por Vida'- Forever.
Panocha - Pussy.
Panzon - Fat man.
Pedo - Problem. No, not pedophile!
Pendejo - Dickhead, also an extremely foolish person, a coward
Perico - Cocaine.
Puto - Faggot, Gay individual.
Pendido - High on substances.
Qué onda? - "What's up?"
Ranfla - A car, generally a low-rider.
Rifamos - "We rule"
Ruca - Old woman.
Ruco - Old man.
Swata - Idiot.
Sureño South Sider that orginated from the Mexican Mafia. Sureno's are associated to the number: 13 (because the 'S' is the 13th number in the alphabet) and to color blue.
Tecato - Heroin addict.
Tinto - Derogatory reffering to an African-American
Varrio/Barrio - Neighborhood or hood
Vato - Dude/Guy/Man.
Surputo/Surcaca - Insulting way of saying Sureño. Example: "Fuck you Surpoto!" "Fuck all you Surcaca's!"
Norputo/Norcaca - Insulting way of saying Norteño. Example "Fuck you Norputo!" "Fuck all you Norcaca's!"

Hopefully this short guide clears up a few basic terms for all you new to Hispanic role-play!
Stay safe!

It's kinda hard to remember those words, probably would be easier just to use [Spa], but for more realistic rp this is good. :) Anyway, gj.

You can add :

"Yuta/Gorra/Azules/Cana = Police"
"Porro = Joint"
"Gato = Someone who has been several times in prision"

Also for 'what's up', you can say :

"Todo viento? / Todo bien amigo?"

Merca/Falopa - Cocaine

Ni en pedo/ Ni a palo - "No way"

A little mix-up here: S is a letter, not a number; it's also the 19th letter of the alphabet, whereas M is the 13th. Sureños affiliate with 13 because M is the 13th letter, as in "eMe" which refers to the Mexican Mafia.

Sureños (Southerners, Southsiders), or Sureñas for females, are groups of loosely affiliated gangs that pay tribute to the Mexican Mafia while in U.S. state and federal correctional facilities. Many Sureño gangs have rivalries with one another and the only time this rivalry is set aside is when they enter the prison system.

The Mexican Mafia (Spanish: Mafia Mexicana), also known as La Eme (Spanish for "the M"), is a Mexican American highly-organized, criminal organization in the United States. Despite its name, the Mexican Mafia did not originate in Mexico and is entirely a U.S. criminal prison organization. Sureños, including MS-13 and Florencia 13, use the number 13 to show allegiance to the Mexican Mafia. M is the 13th letter of the alphabet.

There, so people won't get the wrong image of what we're trying to portray.

Thanks for this-..gonna try to RP as a Hispanic character for a bit :)
Roleplay your character - Don't be mad on an OOC level just because you got robbed or beaten up for running your mouth.

You will only be good at roleplaying when you stop powergaming and metagaming to win in roleplay situations. Losing is a huge part of daily roleplay, you're not invincible.

Im Mexican and some of these are way off. I wouldn't trust all the words listed in here. For example

You can add :

"Yuta/Gorra/Azules/Cana = Police"

What the fuck when have you ever heard somebody say "A'ye, the Yuta coming" lol that's some shit an Argentinian would say.

Very true. In Chile we refer to the Police as "yuta" as well.
