SAN ANDREAS PROJECT [WIP]

Post by Weston » Sat Apr 29, 2017 9:04 pm

Information on what im doing:
The idea behind San Andreas Project is to bring back a somewhat remastered SA world using a new game engine by using and improving the original SA models. It's a completely fun project for myself, I'm entirely aware that the end result would be something I personally cant sell but I could still hand out the creation I do for free as a Fan remake.

I somewhat had a multiplayer style of RPG in mind or maybe a new story using some of the original characters, perhaps maybe you play as sweet instead of CJ through the story instead?

Just thought its a little fun and unique to try, any thoughts and feedback is appreciated. Like i said, its just something entertaining and fun for me to do, not a huge focus in my life.

(If it does grab enough peoples attention then i'll update this a lot more and give screenshots and progress.)

That is some amazing job right there. However, it will take you a lot of time to get done if you are working on it all by yourself. Don't lose hope, though. The result will be gorgeous.

The Unity Engine is not the best choice as far as I know. You might wanna try Unreal Engine, because it is much easier to use and it has that Blueprint system that can help you a lot in this "journey". Nonetheless, great idea and initiative.

Good luck!

I completely forgot about that feature. Though the unreal engine is a pain in the ass to learn, once you get the hang of it you'll be in love.

Tried Unreal in the past and never liked the software, Unity just has a better workspace in my opinion, plus like i've mentioned its just something im doing when im bored and got free-time. However thank you for the suggestion buddy! it's much appreciated, also thank you for the comment!

Great work there, buddy! If I were you, I'd look into parsing the map files of GTA:SA instead, so all you'd need to do is import the models and parse the file to know what goes where. I already started a parser in C#, and I don't know if I'm gonna finish it but it should give you a good idea of what to do.

The files you wanna look for are:
.ipl files: http://gta.wikia.com/wiki/Item_Placement
.ide files: http://gta.wikia.com/wiki/IDE

Here's the parser I worked on: https://github.com/JLWalsh/GTA-SA-IPL-I ... 0Converter
It's not fully functionnal, but the "shape" of the classes is there, now I'd only need to write more parsers.

Side-note: to those saying that Unreal is a better engine than Unity, stop. Unity is a great engine, with a very supportive community. Games don't look "better" in Unreal by default, they just tend to be built by big game studios. Also the blueprint thing is pretty bad if you wanna recreate a game as big as GTA:SA.

Good luck, op!
Long gone, soon to return! :D
