First Edition of SAMMA
By Jaquan Breaux | 2th of October 2017
Sheriff Department Corporal Nathan Newell holding his Special Enforcement Bureau flag, Allyce Korzennik and Antwan Yates
On the first of October the San Andreas Mixed Martial Arts (SAMMA) held its first public edition of hosted fights.
A total of three fights were hosted by founder Tyrell Tatum.
I had the chance to speak to the winners of the fights after their well earned victories for a short interview.
Nathan Newell fighting his opponent
What's your full name and boxing name if you got any?
Nathan Newell, I don't have a boxing name.
You just won the main fight of the night. How you feel about winning?
All good, man. I was putting it down real good in front of my boys in the crowd.
Feels good.
Now you won, what's your next move?
I think I'm on a roll at the moment. I'm gonna keep this up and see where I go, you know.
I noticed your flag when we took the picture. Are you a cop?
Yeah, been a cop for five years or so at the Sheriff's Department, Corporal.
Antwan Yates fighting his opponent
You took your opponent down within the first round, KO. What's your comment on that?
Well its not really a suprise to me, I've been doing this for a while.
What's your plans for the future? Try and take the belt from Nathan?
That Nathan guy got something coming to him, I'm not worried about him.
I know for a fact I'll beat him.
Any tips you want to give out to the people out there?
Keep your head up.
You never know whats coming at you.
Allyce Korzennik fighting her opponent Alice Nolan
For how long have you been fighting?
Well, I haven't been fighting. I just saw an ad and then I decided to try it out.
Do you consider your win a matter of pure luck?
No, I consider my win pure strength.
What's your thoughts about the opponent you fought?
Well, she was a very good fighter.
On the first round she wrecked me.
Any tips you'd like to share?
Block as much as you can when you're fighting.
Then swing at your opponent when they're not so focused.

CCW Holder Stops Active Shooter, Raising Questions
By Manuela Torres | October 10, 2017
George Anthony pictured on the left, crouched. At around 11:30 PM October 2nd, 2017, a male exited his vehicle with a 12 gauge shotgun and began to open fire. That's when a concealed carry permit holder named George Anthony pulled out his weapon. Anthony fired 3 times, striking the offender to incapacitate him. It is unclear at this time what brought on the violent act by the offender in question.
Anthony later gave a statement after the situation was handed over to police. He stated that, "I think it's my job as a concealed carry permit holder to defend myself and others in times of need."
Is this kind of civilian intervention just what we need when seconds matter, or could it have been handled by the Police just as easily? Please comment below your thoughts on how you feel about CCW license holders intervening during a situation where the police are not there, and seconds matter.
The Police Department have not made a statement regarding the incident.
