Black Ops 2, competitive?

Post by ColinB » Sun Nov 18, 2012 12:29 am

Okay so, we all know no CoD game after CoD4 has been even remotely considered for competitive play, never mind promod.
But it seems that the whole TEK9/Promod community has taken alot to BO2, giving the status of CoD4 and the scene.
We need sponsors and a lift to the game, and BO2 seems to have it.
It's classed by the community as the only "playable" stock game for competitive since CoD4.
ESL/TEK9 already developed a ruleset for matches.(found below)
Spoiler: show
Thanks due to caesium for typing this out

Preliminary ESL S&D rules (as confirmed to me by an admin):
Assault Rifles: ALL Assault Rifles allowed
SMG's: MSMC and Chicom CQB allowed - ALL OTHERS DISABLED
Sniper Rifles: Ballista, DSR 50 - ALL OTHERS DISABLED
Shotguns: R-870 MCS, KSG - ALL OTHERS DISABLED
Pistols: FiveSeven, Tac45, Executioner - ALL OTHERS DISABLED
Specials - ALL DISABLED

Restrict all wildcards
Restrict all lethal nades, only allow Grenade
Restrict all tactical nades, only allow Flash-bang and Smoke
Restrict all perks EXCEPT AWARENESS (Perk 3 section).
Restrict all attachments, only allow FMJ for improved penetration, Ballistic CPU, Variable Zoom on scope and Iron Sights for Ballista.
Restrict all launchers
Hardcore: off

Friendly fire ON
Scorestreaks OFF
Pre-match timer 30-45 seconds (doesn't matter too much)
Pre-round timer (strat time) - 6 seconds
Dynamic map elements OFF
Killcam OFF
3rd person spectating OFF
COD Casting allowed
Revenge voice NO
Battlechatter OFF
Announcer ON
Explosive delay OFF
Hit markers ON (for now)
Multibomb: NO
Switch sides: NO
Silent plant: NO

Plant time: 5 seconds
Defuse time: 7 seconds
Time limit 1.5 minutes (1 min 30 secs)
Bomb timer: 45 seconds

NO limit of number of scopes/smg/shotguns per team (no option to limit ingame for now)

Round win limit: 12. Just play 12 rounds on a half and then the host can end the game, you go back to the lobby, switch sides and go again for the 2nd half.

I've played it a hell of a lot myself lately and I must say, it's smooth, optimized and certainly playable.
The leagues and matchmaking systems are decent but it does make you want for dedicated servers when you're matched with a poor host.
TEK9 have a teamspeak server set up for mixes/scrims, so if you want to get involved, head on over at 85.236.100.27:10117.
There is no password.
We can make this a general mix thread, so drop your steam username and get playing.

I refuse to play that game until they fix the UAV spam, lag, spawns and the fact that the only gun you can use if you want to do decent is a SMG since there all OP.

Ah-hah, I uninstalled it last week, it became boring when you're playing 5v5s and Codehook/X22 have already released cheats for the game.
Public is just pointless.

Patch came out to try and fix the SMG's on Xbox and PS3, but there still OP. I really miss the COD4 days, but I guess nothing can last forever. :(

Shame that a very small part of the CoD community has heard of promod.

Alot of the hardcore players replicate promod in the sense of using guns/perks and wallbangs but because they're casual gamers, they tend to give promod a quick shot then give up when they see the skill required for it.

Yeah that's true but there's also alot of people that doesn't even know about it at all. That is what you get when you're making a game made for casual gamers and not for competitive gaming. CS is a successful game in the competitive genre for a reason.

Exactly.
I think CoD4 accidentally became competitive.

What is promod? I usually just play COD with my mates for casual fun, but I might get into the competitive side.

Nice. I might actually give this a try and they should add a ProMod playlist in the next Call of Duty for sure, it'll just give the more competitive people a chance of playing, rather than going in a standard TDM game with a million things going on at once.

Promod isn't something that's a playlist.
It's a "mod" for a reason.
It took years to develop and it's still being revised.
It only seems to work in CoD4, and it's older sister version PAM in CoD2 and early CoD4.
With the mindset of Call of Duty developers nowadays, competitive will have only lived on CoD2/CoD4 and it will die there.

Mhm, a competitive community can not be held up on its feet without any support from the game's developers. As stated above:
competitive will have only lived on CoD2/CoD4 and it will die there.

I had some great years within the cod community and to see it fall is really sad.
