Re-do user titles

Post by Sir Eric. » Sun Nov 24, 2013 12:26 am

Titles such as "Spam Machine" and "Wannabe Don" are old and dumb, replace them with something better would be better - suggesting seniority titles instead based on the registration date or something more professional if they're based on post count.

Not satisfied with your new title, Sir Eric?

OT: I don't think we should necessarily change them — they have been like this since time immemorial and it would be senseless to change them now. Just out of curiosity: what titles would you suggest?

They are pretty out dated and most of them are only related to mafias and gangs. Though, they're not to bad, I don't see why we should change them.

I'd like to hear some suggestions of what they should be changed to though.

@Pooch, hell no - it's stupid and I haven't gotten my head out of my ass to suggest removal until I got it! Titling users with more than 5000 posts as spam machine is weird (unless you spam like Lantto in which case you deserve it).

@Shruth, they're not bad - they're stupid as hell.
Suggesting something easier as in the lines of Regular user, Senior user etcetera based on registration date - giving the 2007 - 2008 people a veteran user title of some sort.

I think they're fine the way they are at the moment. You're not really giving any ideas so...

Without the last two, these seem the most suitable to me.

Who cares about user titles anyway?

OT: It's fine the way it is, I think that if they're changed they should be removed all together. They don't really serve much of a purpose anyway.

Something new for them would be nice, so yeah i'll support it, the current titles are a bit old and there could be better ones put in.

As mentioned, changing the titles from post count to joining date would be pretty decent and respectful.

How about the registration date in combination with the amount of posts made?
Though it sounds like a lot of work to me for something unimportant as an user-title.

I'm trying not to - they're outdated and annoying the heck out of me, now that I'm on the way of semi-retiring I'm finding things to get grumpy on. Any update Marcus?

I have been going into depths, I never actually wanted to discover it seems impossible to assign them by join date automatically.

You can ASSIGN them MANUALLY however, but that is loads of work and since I am not really gifted with programming languages whatsoever and phpbb coding has been the only one I have ever been interested in I will have to dig much much deeper into the code to figure out a function/way to assign them by join date.

This is how the rank tab in the ACP looks like:
Image
Despite that being outdated you can use the function to set a special or non special rank, special ranks being custom titles like I have or other donators and staff members.

Interesting. I never understood these phpBB functions to depth.

However, how is the current post count rank working? There must be a general script to count the post count number and assign a rank to it, no? Therefore, it could be technically rewritten to acknowledge / count the days since joining date.

I'll try to ask some friends who are in it, maybe something will get going.
