Definitely supporting. Would be very nice to see and bring a new aspect to investigation. IRL guns have serial numbers aswell, tracing back to their owners.

I think this would be a great idea. It would force people to RP properly and would allow PD/SD to investigate into things better. Now that I come to mention it, even illegal factions could get into the business of faking model numbers and such, when they know that it matches the serial number of someone else's gun. That would be something cool to add in.

Example of a system?

Firearms purchased from a legal gun-store will include a nine character serial code randomly generated.

SN Scratch
/scratch [serial-code]
-Requirements: Toolkit
-Description: Scratches the serial code of a firearm.
The firearm SN field will be replaced with the word Serial: Scratch.
*David Wolf scratches the Shotgun's serial code.
You have scratched the Shotgun's serial code: 39430DF33

SN Scratch Recovery [PD/SD Only]
-Description: Chance to recover scratched serial characters from a firearm.
http://www.csitechblog.com/2011/07/how- ... mbers.html

SN Scratch Restoration
Description: Restores a scratch serial number at any legal gunstore. Requires the correct serial number before the firearm was scratched. Used after a gun owner gets his recovered firearms that have been scratched.

I'd love to see this, it would help out when checking someones record.

Although, you have to have a license to buy a gun, and you apply for one, so not many people will be abusing the right to have one.

It has almost been a year since I suggested this. Can any tester/scripter please make a decision with this (forward/archive)?

This would just be a /b fest every time someone is caught with a gun. t/b I scratched the serial code off. t/b You got a screenshot?

It'd be ridiculous.

I don't see the problem with it. It happens often, people prove that they did something that is not likely to have happened unless they pay attention to details.

So yeah, if someone roleplays scratching the serial off they can take a screenshot of it with /servertime for backup, like people do when they put their drugs in a bush or so

I'd have to say no for the bullet part ID thing, Honestly if you have a USP pistol IRL with 2 people, exact same damn gun, u cant find the exact person, its kinda PG.

I'm pretty much sure I explained the ballistic forensics on the main post. It is not powergaming. You can read about it. Bullet striations are unique to the firearm as an object, not depending on the model. Characteristics such as rifling marks do depend on model and are not unique. But microscopic bullet striations are UNIQUE, just like other toolmarks.

So yes there is an identifier between the firearms.

These IDs should be OOC for comparison purposes. So this way people have a purpose for tossing away firearms used in murders.

Also, this may stop some abuses of the PF/CCW licenses, it'll register the weapons bought and then the admins can check that, because at the moment - as far as I know, there is no system in place to catch the license abusers.

As for the listed reasons, it's a great ID and would really aid the homicide investigations and make murder require more thought and people would kill only with illegal weapons for reasons that are illegal, unless they didn't realize ICly.
