Just scrap the whole new drug system. There was nothing wrong with the old one and the new one from the looks of it lags the server. Don't fix what's not broken.

Any server lag is completely irrelevant to the drug update; the lag was a prominent issue prior to the implementation of the new system, and there have been no substantial changes between now and the day it was introduced. It is to my understanding that Mmartin has brought some features from the problematic revision back into play, so right now - any lag on the server is as a result of that. Hopefully this will allow us to identify what had been putting a strain on the server.

Can't this be done on a test server or the likes? It's demotivating for a lot of players when all you see is people teleporting, lag slamming eachother and so on. I only saw the problem pop back up today.

I agree with you, drugs should have an effect on the character's being. Like, some narcotics do give you positive things such as strength, ability to focus more etc.. While others can simply rack up toxic waste in your blood and end up giving you a stroke or damaging your health in general.

It isn't only prominent at peak times, I'm playing right now at 02:40 IG time with 230 players and the lag is still here.

Is it possible to add alcohol as a drug? Technically it's still a drug, but legal and it would be much better to have it instead of roleplaying.
