Life before San Andreas.
Bulgarian was born in Meadow Hills, Dukes, Liberty City in 1989. His mother was a state born Italian-American. His father was a Yugoslavian war veteran trying to burry his sorrows in drugs, alcohol and unprotected sex with American woman. This lead to the perfect dysfunctional relationship. His father never married his mother due to her blood line, eventually leading to the ultimate abandonment of his son and wife. Salvatore was only five years old. After effectively blowing through the minimal savings his mother was able to ration, in the course of a year.
They were homeless. Salvatores mother was forced to put him up for adoption at the age of six. Traumatically damaging Salvatore. He was forced to grow up in an Orphanage in Downtown, Dukes. He became affiliated with various other Italian American children. Eventually at the age of fifteen he scored a job as a dish washer at Cangelonis Place, a local Italian restaurant. At a little over sixteen, Salvatore had been saving money and got into a studio apartment with a friend of his; Nicholas Barbinozito. The duo both worked extensive hours at Cangelonis, eventually climbing the ranks of the restaurant industry. Sweat and tears went into the young gentlemens work. Blood was to be added to the mix. One night, at the bar in Cangelonis; a fight broke out. After a scuffle against a group of older gentlemen picked a fight. Bulgarian, Barbinozito and various other younger employees went on to assault the group. Due to Salvatores stressful situationn behind closed doors, this was an excuse. An excuse to take out anger. That being said, Salvatore found himself with his first charge, as a juvenile. The Liberty City Police Department pinned manslaughter on Bulgarian. With a trial nine months away, Salvaotore found himself in a relatively negative situation. Rotting in a juvenile detention; optimistically. Although things had turned for the worse, optimism kept him going. Eventually reaching his trial date, pleading guilty with no intention of manslaughter as a plea bargain. He was later released on six months monitored parole, with curfew. When Salvatore was to turn eighteen, his record was to be wiped. As all young adults in the United States are. Bulgarian found himself back on the streets soon after his trial, jobless. Until his former employer, Vincenzo Antolini approached him. Salvatore was offered his old possiton back, and was invited out for a coffee. Thats where Bulgarian met Michael Porro (Both affiliates of the Gambetti Crime Family). Both Porro and Antolini had praised Bulgarian for not mentioning any witnesses or co-conspirators in the brawl. Gaining him a reasonable name on the streets for a now seventeen year old. Little did Bulgarian know at the time; the organization had pulled said necessary strings with law enforcement, bi-standard testimony and made sure the judge fairly prosecuted Bulgarian.
Not being a hundred percent Italian. But being a local, and half Italian made Bulgarian eligible to put in work for the Grambetti crime family without direct association. Salvatore was to become what many refer to in modern times as a crash dummy. Bulgarian was tasked with small things such as smashing windows and stealing others property for the organization at first. Things steadily escalated, although. Not after long he found himself carrying a .38 snub nosed revolver that Porro had given him. Little did he know, Porro had other motives. The very .38 he had given Salvatore for "protection" was to be used on an Ancelotti crime family caporegime, Antonio Rivette. Salvatore was soon given his task. Knowing if he did not do as Porro ordered, he would likely be executed himself. In hope of potential street cred or even becoming made at the age of only twenty one. He took his chances. With the help of Nicholas Barbinozito; the duo assassinated Antonio Rivette as he exited a cinema in northern Algonquin.
Returning to Duke immediately afterwards, the duo were rewarded. Each earning seven thousand dollars. The duo became generally much more trusted within the Gambettis soon going on regular missions. As outside men, they were untouchable. But they knew if they were made, they were Gods. Both Michael Porro and Vincenzo Antolini ordered the hits on over a dozen individuals that Salvatore handled himself. Only on three occasions did another individual help him on a hit. Traumatic childhood situations, and the juvenile detention center had turned him stone cold. Porro and Antolini knew this little to his knowledge. So they exploited it. What else did they know? They knew Bulgarian was alone in the world, angry and had no means or real skills in society. Salvatore was given the nickname "Mutt" by his social group some time after his release from the juvenile detention center, due to his not entirely pure blood line to his Italian heritage. Something else Bulgarian didn't know was that this meant he'll never be made.
Despite being a member of the Gambetti crime family, Bulgarian is displeased he hasn't been made due to his ancestry. Salvatore believes he has put in far more work than some made members, if not most. He keeps this thought contained behind closed doors but has told a select few. In the passed, Bulgarian has been tasked with over watching and generally managing various pawn shops across Dukes and Little Italy, Algonquin. Racketing other businesses in the area for protection. He used the four pawn shops he managed as a front. As years passed he went from being hired to take out neighborhood drug dealers because they were mere scum. To becoming a distributor himself by the age of twenty three. Distributing cocaine and marijuana by the hay bail, from Michael Porro who had moved to Vice City in order to expand the enterprise. As more time went on Vincenzo followed, but branched out to Las Vegas. So that meant Bulgarian was next in line as a Caporegime.
After Jon Gravellis passing in 2008. The head of the Gambetti crime family was orchestrated by a group of three Dons. Forming a council of sorts, working in the shadow. Primarily known outside of the shadows was Don Fredo Rossi. When Rossi stepped up, to say the very least. Shit changed. The war with the Ancelottis came to an all time high. What eventually cooled the tension was actually homeland security, after both crime families started using improvised explosive devices on each other, and high caliber weaponry. Although never proven entirely affirmative, The Gambetti Crime family used the majority of explosives in the end of the conflict. Destroying various safe houses and an Ancelotti casino.
After the war.
When tension died down to how it was and the only worry between the families of Liberty City were keeping the fuck away from each other. Salvatore decided it may be time to get out while he was ahead.
With a more than fair share of profit made from the pawn shop, and his cut of the rackets. He was almost as gold as the gold he had been melting down in the back of pawn shops from his victims over the years. At the age of twenty five, Bulgarian organized a sit down with Don Fredo Rossi where he negotiated his out. With a hefty donation to the family, it was done for. Eventually Bulgarian moved to Bohan and invested in an electronic store, which he ran for a year until the Albanian mafia approached him attempting to tax his store. Bulgarian, a war veteran and former hitman of the Gambetti crime family wasn't having it. The Albanians went on to rough up his store front for some time until learning further information on Salvatore. Upon the Albanians investigation, they had learned of his passed. The Albanian mafia had been working under the Ancelotti crime family as hired guns for years now making it a matter of time before they learned of Bulgarians passed. When Salvators passed was blown. It became dangerous for him. Cars he hadn't seen before, became very familiar. To the point he thought he was being followed everywhere. Which he was. After sleeping in his new company, Sals Electronic Co. Bulgarian got himself a one bedroom apartment for a thousand dollars per month. He started moving his minimal belongings into his new apartment and staying there. Soon, he again began noticing the same vehicles.
After a month of living in his new home, happily trying to run his business. Minus the constant paranoia of the strange vehicles he had been seeing, he thought the coke was getting to him. One evening Salvatore decided to visit some old friends, leading him to Cangelonis for late night drinks and dinner. Heading home, emergency service vehicles kept passing him on the turnpike. So, Salvatore stops at a convenience store in southern Bohan on his way home for a pack of Camel cigarettes. Salvatore gets back to heading home after, as he lights his cigarette pulling down his road, he sees his entire apartment building engulfed in flames. Unsure what to do, he takes off to his electronic store half way across the Boulevard. To view it burning down also.
With his life savings deemed a total loss. Salvatores been forced to bounce from house to house, motel to motel. He's being hunted by the Ancelotti crime family. Causing him to carry his only means of protection, a pistol. Whilst bouncing from place to place, just to be able to live somewhat comfortably. Bulgarian was forced into two gun fights, when an assassin tried to end his life. Unknown to others he has been staying with, Richie Flemming. An old friend of Bulgarian, Richie was killed by the Ancelottis when they learned he was housing Bulgarian. Salvatore has become a living risk to himself and those surrounding himself.
This made Salvatore step to desperate measures. He changed his appearance shaving his longer hair, and facial hair. Purchased new glasses, started going from motel to motel. Then Bulgarian enlisted in Merchant Marine Training. He worked toward obtaining his Transportation Worker Identification Credentials. Which he eventually obtained, then went on to pass the physique requirement tests, due to his weight when he first started this caused the physical requirement to become relatively difficult.. After shedding some unused body weight and becoming accumulated to work out routine Bulgarian eventually passed the physical exams, Soon after completion in the Merchant Marine Academy- Bulgarian found himself lined up as a Hull Manager on a ship that hadnt left port in ten years. Which was ready to head out on further endeavors after renovations were made. The ship left port on December 1st 2016. It was a early winter in Liberty City causing it to be harsh on the Platypus, the ship in which he had been attending his voyage on. It was a direct go to Los Santos. Not even half across the coast of the United States. The Platypus was forced to stop in Vice City for over a month. In which Salvatore became accustomed to the weather. Especially after escaping the violent winter weather of the north east. When the Platypus eventually sailed back to open waters, there were no further issues. Beside rough waters occasionally. The crew eventually made it to Los Santos with the freight load. Whilst , Salvatore was thinking about Liberty City and the hard-suit he was gonna be forced to deal with. On the spot, he stopped everything he was doing. Hit his bunk below deck grabbed his most desired, and relevant belongings and left.
There Salvatore was, alone in Ocean Docks.
